ALEKS- MATH PROGRAM

I want to give you some information regarding a program that every Secondary student 6-12 will be using this school year for all Math courses.  The program is called ALEKS and San Tan has purchased a subscription for each student.  This program is an internet based math program that is set per each individual student’s mathematical knowledge.  ALEKS is used as both an intervention, to fill in math skills students may lack, along with enrichment of math skills and objectives.  Each student has been registered into ALEKS  based off their current math class they are taking.  This is not a curriculum and will not be replaced by teaching in the classroom.  This is a program that students will be required and held to accountability both at home and school, to utilize for increase of their math skills in all areas.

Every student has their own individual login and password.  Students begin the program by taking a Knowledge Check.  This Knowledge Check takes the individual student’s math skills and then creates a pie that has all the main content areas of mathematics: whole numbers, fractions, ratios and proportions, algebra, geometry etc… and forms a program set for them to work on achieving and retaining the skills of each area.  Students will be required to work on this from home weekly.  In order to gain success with this program it must be used consistently.  As teachers, we will be checking the student’s progress on a weekly if not daily basis.  We will be checking for portions completed along with assigned homework on the ALEKS program.  Many days you will see that this may be your student’s only Math homework.  We may also assign quizzes or tests using this program based on the skills we are teaching in class.  We have it set so that students may complete the homework, see their grade immediately for feedback, and redo any assignments that they do poorly on unlimited amount of times. Our focus and goal is to ensure that all students are mastering the objectives for future use.           We will be taking a weekly grade for ALEKS for students that will be incorporated with their in class assignments and their overall math course grade.

Every week your child will only receive 1 class period to work on ALEKS with their math teacher.  The rest of the required assignments and time must be completed at home.  We strongly encourage you to login to ALEKS with your child so that you can see what they are working on, and also become familiar with the program.

Feel free to check out the program at www.aleks.com.

Please email for any questions you may have regarding this program.  This resource is truly amazing for students to enhance their math skills.  It is a research based program and allows students to strengthen their skills to move forward in math regardless of what level of mathematics they are currently at.   We appreciate your support.
